What is a doula?

The Doula is the guardian of sacred transitions.

She accompanies. She guides.

She walks alongside you to the portal that only you can pass through, and she waits for you on the other side.

If you lose yourself in fear, it reminds you that you are magnificent, powerful, capable of anything.

It helps you find your voice, connect with your body and your intuition, cultivate inner strength.

The Doula supports the birth: not only of babies, but of the growing soul.

Why am I doing this work?

I hear too many stories from women who feel like their birth was stolen from them. Perhaps from an overbearing medical team, perhaps from fearmongering around childbirth, or simply from a lack of information and emotional support. I gave birth at home in 2019, the day after a beautiful Blessingway ceremony. I felt safe, supported, and confident to let go and embrace the spiritual transition into motherhood. It’s an experience I wish for every mother, no matter where or how she chooses to give birth. Birth is a sacred event and should be treated as such.

I also do this work to help women heal from painful experiences. Grief surrounding a negative or even traumatic birth experience deserves as much care as any other trauma, even if the mother and baby were born healthy.

There is another grief to talk about, just as heavy but almost invisible in our society: pregnancy loss. A woman who was pregnant and is no longer pregnant, by her choice or not, has still crossed the threshold of transition and she deserves to be supported, cared for and heard.

I am trained in perinatal trauma and pregnancy loss. Whatever your experiences, they are valid. It's never too late to seek resolution.
